Getting Hay in

Farm Journal
Yesterday we had our winter hay delivered from Four Corners. We got in 40 bales of alfalfa and 26 bales of orchard grass, bringing us to 40 and 40 total bales on hand. It cost just over $700, but it will have our horses fed until the rainy season is over.

Getting Hay in December 2005

Hay down to about five bales of grass and 3 bales of alfalfa.

Today Four Corners delivered 40 alfalfa (@ $12) and 19 grass (@$13.75). There was a wet spot in the grass barn, at left rear. It looks as if it may be due to a bad gasket on a nail in the roof. I put some silver roof tape over the nail, and we avoided that spot when loading the barn.

Next year, make sure to get hay in before December 1! It was touch and go whether the ground would be dry enough to make a delivery.

a smidge to tide us over

Hay barns both empty. Brought in 10 bales of grass and 10 of alfalfa to tide us over until it gets cheaper. Yvonne says about a month.
